Suffolk
A request under the Freedom of Information Act to the Suffolk County Council for a list of mainstream primary and secondary schools in the county with facilities for the visually impaired drew the following response:
In Suffolk there are no schools with units or additionally resourced centres for children with VI. The vast majority of children attend their local school and are provided with additional specialist equipment and support as required. A few children attend out- County placements.
If you want to know how many schools are making provision for significant VI - that is something different and we would have to check caseload data.
Suffolk has three x QTVI (qualified teachers of the visually impaired) and has just commissioned a county-wide review of its sensory services.
