a better education for visually impaired children

A request under the Freedom of Information Act to Devon County Council for a list of mainstream primary and secondary schools in the county with facilities for the visually impaired drew the following response:

We have no 'units' for Visually Impaired in Devon, as our policy of 'inclusion', means that these children would be integrated into the nornal school environment.

However, the new Clyst Heath School in Exeter, has been built with a very high involvement of VI and it is hoped that this is to be an example (though we have no VI children attending at present), of our new schools of the future.
