a better education for visually impaired children

A request under the Freedom of Information Act to the Cambridgeshire County Council for a list of mainstream primary and secondary schools in the county with facilities for the visually impaired drew the following response:

Cambridgeshire County Council no longer has any designated units or resource bases specifically for pupils with a visual impairment. All such children now attend their local "mainstream" school where they are given support from our peripatetic team of visual impairment specialist workers. In other words, all our schools are able to cater for visually impaired children but none have special "facilities" as such.
