a better education for visually impaired children

A request under the Freedom of Information Act to the Barnet Borough Council for a list of mainstream primary and secondary schools in the county with facilities for the visually impaired drew the following response:

With appropriate support, all visually impaired pupils can be successfully included in all the mainstream schools in Barnet. It is an LEA goal to make it straightforward and practical for any Barnet school to take visually impaired pupils. The fundamental principle that disabled people should have the same opportunities as non-disabled people in their access to education is central to our ethos. We support school policies to embrace inclusion and promote practices to ensure it succeeds.
